Prologue

“You’re joking,” Reyansh said, blinking like someone had punched him straight in the soul.

“I don’t joke,” Inaya snapped back. “Unlike you. Walking red flag with dimples.”

“Inaya—”

“Reyansh.”

Thirty seconds of pure glaring.

Fifteen seconds of Reyansh pacing like a malfunctioning robot.

“Inaya,” he tried again, voice dangerously calm, “you’re telling me we—you and I—are having a baby?”

“No, idiot,” she shot back. “I’m having a baby. You just contributed like a useless WiFi signal. Worked once and vanished.”

He choked. “Did you just compare me to WiFi?”

“Yes. Unreliable, irritating, and only useful at 2 a.m.”

“That—Inaya—this is serious!”

“I am serious!” She threw her hands up. “Do you think I’d pick you of all people to be the father? I’d rather wrestle a crocodile.”

“Well, the crocodile clearly wrestled us first!” he retorted. “We were DRUGGED!”

“Oh please. Even drugged, your ego stayed completely sober.”

He pointed at her. “Okay first, ouch. Second—positive? Like, positive-positive? Not metaphorical ‘my life is over’ positive?”

“Yes, Reyansh. The two-lines-wala positive. The congratulations-you’re-screwed positive.”

Reyansh muttered a curse. “Great. Fantastic. Couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

“You think you’re having a bad day?” Inaya growled. “I’m the one dealing with the fact that I—me—Inaya Kapoor—might be carrying an enemy’s child.”

“Enemy?” Reyansh scoffed. “Last I checked, you were the one who kissed me first.”

“That was NOT a kiss!”

“A moment of weakness?”

“A moment of drugged delirium. And if we’re talking weaknesses, you were the one who couldn’t keep your hands to yourself.”

Reyansh’s eyes gleamed. “You weren’t exactly pushing me away, Little Aafat.”

Her jaw dropped. “That’s… not the point.”

He stepped closer. “Then what is the point?”

She inhaled shakily. “The point is… what do we do now?”

For the first time since the chaos started, Reyansh actually looked at her—really looked at her. His voice softened.

“If the test is positive… we figure it out. Together.”

Something flickered in her eyes—fear, shock, something warmer.

Then, of course, he ruined it.

“But just to be clear, if the kid inherits your attitude, bas hospital se seedha boarding school bhej denge.”

[Straight from the hospital, we'll send him to boarding school]

She gasped. “Reyansh Singhaniya! If the baby inherits anything from you, it’ll probably start blackmailing doctors for candy.”

He shrugged. “Fair.”

Silence hung—tense, uncomfortable, weirdly warm.

“Inaya…” he asked quietly, “are you scared?”

She swallowed. “Are you?”

“Only of one thing.”

“What?”

“That you’ll run.”

Her voice cracked. “I don’t run.”

“Good,” he said softly. “Because I’m not letting you go.”

The air between them shifted—sharp words melting into something neither of them could name.

Inaya finally broke the tension. “We’re still enemies, okay?”

“Sure.”

“This changes nothing.”

“Of course.”

“And don’t get any ideas.”

“Bilkul nahi, Little Aafat.”

[Absolutely not, Little Aafat.]

She glared. He smirked.

And in the charged silence—between the chaos, the stubborn breaths, the unspoken truths—both of them knew one thing:

Everything had already changed.

Somewhere in the shadows, the memory of that night lingered.

Who drugged them—and why—was a question neither had dared to ask yet.
